Dan Burkholder

August 30, 2006

Check out this guy, Dan Burkholder. His subject is the devastation and destruction that hit New Orleans last year. His medium is HDR images. I really like how he has used HDR images to document the destruction of New Orleans in a very powerful manner.

jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, originally uploaded by krmuir.

An exceptional HDR by krmuir. The blue tones and the exotic mood of this image is wonderful and further enhanced throght the use of subtle HDR processing.

Heavy Chevy

Heavy Chevy, originally uploaded by Tex Flix.

HDR is great for making images of machines as demonstrated in this magnifecent portait of a Chevy by Terry aka TexFlix. The lighting of the vehicle is brilliant and the shadows, which are often lost in the HDR process, are very realistic.

Reflections

reflections, originally uploaded by molinchka.

A stunning naturescene from molinchka. The crispness and contrast in this scene are on the verge of reality. HDR photographers often loose the colors found in nature but this image is quite on the contrary. The rich blues and greens are very realistic.

Wind trails

Wind trails, originally uploaded by jens_i_r.

Beautifully composed HDR by Jens_i_r. A sudden burst of color at the horizon. It’s wonderful how the clouds all point to the sunset and create a sense of movement. The textures in the foreground do that to some degree as well. The rocks, have just a hint of reflected light from the sunset and provide a passage into the sea and the ocean gives us a clear path into sunset.

Please note that I’m not seeking comments and these are not my images.  I’m only creating a showcase of HDR artwork from other artist.  If you want to make comments please go to the corresponding flickr.com page and make it there.

The Green Weed of Pembroke

August 25, 2006

The Green Weed of Pembroke, originally uploaded by PhotoToasty.

A wonderful image from the Pembroke beach by PhotoToasty. The green weed in the foreground provides a beautiful contrast to the blue and red tones in the background. The HDR processing is subtle and isn’t obvious at all, although it would have been difficult to get such beautifully lit foreground with a single exposure and without any use of lighting equipment. The smooth texture of the wet sand against the organic texture of the weed also contributes to the splendor of this image.

Uncertain beginnings (Max magazine)

Uncertain beginnings (Max magazine), originally uploaded by Victoriano.

Confectionary for the eyes. A beautifully balanced composition of essentally 3 trees, puddle and a road leading into the fog. The reflections, the shape of the trees and the foggy atmoshphere all come together in this wonderful image. The HDR processing is very subtle in this image and the scene is beautifully lit.

** dream **

** dream **, originally uploaded by -lecheel-.

The title says it all. A composition with endless depth. A tiny mountain path leading to a small willage on the mountain top. A path of couds leads your eyes through the valley and into the sunset. The harmony of colors is brilliant.

Duality

August 22, 2006

Duality, originally uploaded by Automatt.

One of the most grand HDR I’ve seen. The grandeur of the clouds perfectly matches that of the futuristic metropolitian cityscape. The scene is intense and dramatic and the wide angle lens adds to that effect.

St. Oswald’s sunset

August 21, 2006

St. Oswald’s sunset, originally uploaded by Robert Silverwood.

A wonderful HDR by Robert Silverwood. I like the depth of the compositition which is achieved by the use of super wide angle lens. The wide angle distorts the proportions of the building, an effect which I’m very fond of. The colors and the mood of this image are just wonderful. It also reminds us of how patience is an essential ingredient of a great image. Sometimes we have to wait for the right moment, as this photographer waited for the symphony of colors at sunset.
